Premium Wood Pellets
Premium pellets are made from virgin softwood, which is produced during the processing of wood. It is then debarked, and compressed into cylinders, which are quite light in colour.

When burnt, these fuel pellets will produce minimal ash, and so your boiler or stove will require less cleaning. Perhaps you'll only need to spend a few moments a day or week keeping your boiler or stove in optimum condition, so that it works at its best.

When you use premium pellets, you'll be getting a consistent quality product, and you have the reassurance that the fuel you're using to heat your home or workplace meets European standards which guarantees heat and quality. This means that each and every bag or delivery of wood fuel you use will provide the same amount of heat, and will be quality assured.

Many of the leading manufacturers recommend that you should only use premium pellets are used in their pellet boiler and stoves. Using economy pellets can mean that you don't get the same amount of heat and efficiency from your boiler or stove, because the thermal output of economy pellets isn't guaranteed to be consistent.

Economy Wood Pellets
Economy pellets are made from virgin softwood and often contain some bark or recycled clean softwood. These are usually shorter and darker than premium wood pellets, and are ideal for use with on open fires, Agas, log stoves, and chimineas.

As there is no standard for economy pellets, there is no guarantee of their heat output, Logik-e Softwood Wood Pellets or construction, and so they are not recommended for use in modern wood boilers or stoves.

When burnt, economy pellets will produce more ash than premium ones, and so if you're using them for fuel, you'll need to allow a little more time cleaning.

Thanks to their incredible absorbency, economy pellets make ideal horse bedding and cat litter. Although not quite as absorbent as premium pellets, economy pellets are still much more effective kilo for kilo, than wood shavings, and break down much quicker when left to compost too.

Economy pellets are cheaper than premium pellets, and so if you're looking to use wood pellets for animal bedding, then you'll probably choose economy pellets to save money.

You'll also need to remember that whichever you buy you'll be subjected to VAT. If you're using pellets for fuel, then you'll pay 5% VAT, and if you're using your pellets for any other purpose, such as animal bedding, then the VAT is 20%.

Now you know the differences, you'll be able to choose the right wood pellets.
